He was such a brilliant man; a wonderful educator that truly taught me so much. His life motto always was “Do the right thing”.   He will be missed.

John Edward Anderson, the second of five children born to Joan Housley Anderson and the late George E. Anderson, died Wednesday, a victim of cancer.

Born in Akron, on September 21, 1952, he attended Buchtel High School, Class of 1970. Following high school, John enlisted in the United States Air Force. He was stationed at Keesler AFB, Mississippi, where he studied electronics and designed the Boy Scout emblem for the State of Mississippi. He was later stationed at Luke AFB, Arizona. After military service, John attended Kent State University. John worked in Flagstaff, Arizona from 1980-1984 and 1987-1995. From 1984-1987, John managed a bar in Jacksonville Beach, Florida. In 1995, John returned to Akron where he lived until his death.

John had many talents. He was an artist whose work was displayed at the Akron Art Museum, a 3rd degree black belt in karate, a Mason, a gardener, and a resourceful construction worker. John liked people, crossword puzzles and singing and playing the guitar for his many friends.

John is survived by his daughter, Neico Anderson; mother, Joan; brother, David; sisters, Lesley, Lynn and Joany; and friend, Carol Hofer.

Friends may call at the Bacher Funeral Home, 3326 Manchester Rd. on Sunday, July 3, 2011 from 5 to 7 p.m., where a funeral service will be held beginning at 7 p.m., Rev. Raymond Jones officiating. Masonic service provided by Adoniram Joppa Lodge #517 will begin at 5 p.m. Interment will be at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery on Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at 10 a.m. Funeral home map, directions, and the Anderson Family condolence book are available at www.bacherfuneralhome.com.
