Did you know that the TED Conference was not actually founded by anyone named Ted? His name is Richard Saul Wurman and the idea for TED conferences was born in 1984 when Wurman realized three very special fields had an undeniable convergence: technology, entertainment, and design (T.E.D). The first conference that focused on the compact disc, the e-book, and 3D graphics was a financial failure and it was several years before Wurman tried again. As the audience and subject matter grew, the internet helped to further boost awareness of TED. They celebrated their 30th anniversary this year.
