While visiting the Post Ranch Inn during my recent trip to gorgeous Big Sur, I saw the spectacular traveling exhibition by sculpture artist Todd McGrain entitled “The Lost Bird Project”. It is a memorial to extinct birds through the medium of magnificent and gigantic bird sculptures. As you may know, the California Condor actually became extinct in the 1980s. Thanks to government intervention, the last remaining 22 living Condors were kept at the San Diego zoo until the population grew and was reintroduced to the wild a decade later.
You can even see some of these breathtaking creatures flying in their natural habitat of the Big Sur area and there are state-funded lookout points for possible sightings. Todd McGrain’s exhibit for Big Sur showcases the Condor, as seen below.
